RESUMO A suplementação mineral adequada pode ser uma estratégia para viabilizar o uso de água salobra na produção de hortaliças. Este estudo teve como objetivo avaliar o efeito das concentrações de nitrato de cálcio nas trocas gasosas foliares e na produção de couve (Brassica oleracea L.) fertigada com soluções nutritivas salinizadas. O experimento foi conduzido em delineamento experimental em blocos casualizados (4 + 1), com quatro repetições. Foram utilizadas cinco soluções nutritivas, sendo quatro foram preparadas em água salobra (6,0 dS m-1) contendo quatro concentrações de Ca(NO3)2 [(750, 1.125, 1.500 e 1.875 mg L-1)] e um tratamento controle (solução nutritiva padrão usando água de baixa salinidade, 0,5 dS m-1 (750 mg L-1 de Ca(NO3)2) . As seguintes análises foram realizadas: trocas gasosas foliares, área foliar e produção de matéria fresca. A solução nutritiva padrão forneceu maiores valores para taxa fotossintética (13,06 µmol CO2 m-2 s-1), condutância estomática (0,19 mol H2O m-2 s-1), transpiração (2,76 mmol H2O m-2 s-1), eficiência instantânea do uso da água (4,73 mmol CO2 mol-1 H2O), eficiência instantânea de carboxilação (0,053 mmol CO2 mol-1 CO2), área foliar (2,78 cm2 por planta) e produtividade de matéria fresca folhas (2,64 kg por planta).O Ca(NO3)2 não anulou, mas atenuou o efeito deletério do estresse salino nas trocas gasosas foliares, com exceção da produção da couve (massa fresca de folhas).

ABSTRACT Adequate mineral supplementation can be a strategy to enable the use of brackish water in the production of vegetables. This study intended to evaluate the effect of calcium nitrate concentrations on leaf gas exchanges and yield of kale (Brassica oleracea L) fertigated with salinized nutrient solutions. The experiment was conducted in a randomized block experimental design (4 + 1), with four replicates. Four nutrient solutions prepared in brackish water (6.0 dS m-1) containing four concentrations of Ca(NO3)2 [(750, 1,125, 1,500, and 1,875 mg L-1)] and a control treatment (standard nutrient solution using low-salinity water, 0.5 dS m-1 (750 mg L-1 of Ca(NO3)2) were used in the study. The following analyses were performed: leaf gas exchanges, leaf area, and fresh matter yield. The standard nutrient solution promoted higher values for photosynthetic rate (13.06 µmol CO2 m-2 s-1), stomatal conductance (0.19 mol H2O m-2 s-1), transpiration (2.76 mmol H2O m-2 s-1), instantaneous water use efficiency (4.73 mmol CO2 mol-1 H2O), instantaneous carboxylation efficiency (0.053 mmol CO2 mol-1 CO2), leaf area (2.78 cm2 per plant), and leaf fresh matter yield (2.64 kg per plant). The Ca(NO3)2 not nullified but mitigated the deleterious effect of salt stress on leaf gas exchanges, except for kale yield (leaf fresh matter).

RESUMO Esta pesquisa objetivou avaliar a eficiência de uso de fósforo em genótipos de meloeiro cultivados em sistema hidropônico. Foram avaliados 10 genótipos de meloeiro em soluções nutritivas com e sem restrição de fósforo. Utilizou-se o delineamento em blocos casualizados no esquema fatorial 10 × 2, com cinco repetições. Foram avaliados os seguintes caracteres: número de folhas, diâmetro do caule, comprimento do ramo principal, comprimento do sistema radicular, volume do sistema radicular, clorofila, razão do teor de fósforo na raiz e parte aérea, fósforo total, razão da matéria seca na raiz e parte aérea, matéria seca total e eficiências de uso, de aquisição e de utilização interna de fósforo. Verificou-se a existência de variabilidade entre os genótipos para todos os caracteres avaliados, exceto para clorofila. Os genótipos A-16, A-29, A-50, A-52 e Trinity foram classificados como eficientes e responsivos na solução com restrição de fósforo, sendo promissores para estudos em melhoramento genético.

ABSTRACT This study aimed to evaluate the efficiency of phosphorus use with melon genotypes cultivated in a hydroponic system. Ten melon genotypes were evaluated in solutions with and without phosphorus restriction. A randomized block design in a 10 × 2 factorial scheme was used, with five replicates. The following characteristics were evaluated: leaf number, stem diameter, main branch length, root system length, root system volume, chlorophyll, root and shoot phosphorus concentration ratio, total phosphorus, root and shoot dry matter ratio, total dry matter, and phosphorus use, acquisition, and internal utilization efficiencies. The existence of variability among genotypes was verified for all evaluated characteristics, except for chlorophyll. Genotypes A-16, A-29, A-50, A-52, and Trinity were classified as efficient and responsive in the phosphorus-restricted solution and are promising for breeding studies.

ABSTRACT An adequate use of brackish water in agricultural production is one of the main challenges for researchers and rural producers, since saline stress may cause physiological and nutritional changes in plants, affecting the crop yield. An appropriate mineral nutrition is essential for plants, grown under saline stress, to express their productive potential. The aim of this study was to evaluate the mineral nutrition and hydroponic kale production under saline stress and calcium nitrate. The experiment was carried out using one hydroponic system in substrate, following a randomized block design, with five treatments and four replicates. The treatments consisted of five nutrient solutions, with a control treatment {S1 = standard nutrient solution using low salinity water, 0.5 dS/m [750 mg/L of Ca(NO3)2]}, and four nutrient solutions prepared using brackish water (6.0 dS/m) containing four concentrations of Ca(NO3)2 (S2 = 750 mg/L, S3 = 1,125 mg/L, S4 = 1,500 mg/L, S5 = 1,875 mg/L). We determined the levels of N, P, K, Ca, Mg and S in leaf tissue at three evaluation times (50, 64 and 78 DAT). Mineral levels in the leaves, stem and root were also evaluated at the end of the experiment (100 DAT). In addition, leaf production and the agronomic efficiency of Ca(NO3)2 were verified. The highest leaf production (1780 g/plant) and agronomic efficiency [2.37 g fresh matter/mg of Ca(NO3)2] were obtained in the standard nutrient solution, and both were reduced at 55.6% by salinity. The extra addition of 50% Ca(NO3)2 in the saline nutrient solution reduced the effect of salinity on Mg absorption and the effect of NaCl addition on kale production.

RESUMO O uso de águas salobras na produção agrícola é um dos principais desafios para pesquisadores e produtores rurais, pois sob estresse salino as plantas podem apresentar alterações fisiológicas e nutricionais, que afetam o rendimento das culturas. Com isso, adequada nutrição mineral é fundamental para que as plantas cultivadas sob estresse salino possam expressar seu potencial produtivo. Objetivou-se com o presente estudo avaliar a nutrição mineral e a produção de couve folha hidropônica sob estresse salino e nitrato de cálcio. O experimento foi desenvolvido utilizando um sistema hidropônico em substrato, seguindo o delineamento de blocos casualizados, com cinco tratamentos e quatro repetições. Os tratamentos foram compostos por cinco soluções nutritivas, sendo um tratamento controle {S1 = solução nutritiva padrão usando água de baixa salinidade, 0,5 dS/m [750 mg/L de Ca(NO3)2]}, e quatro soluções nutritivas preparadas em águas salobras (6,0 dS/m) contendo quatro concentrações de Ca(NO3)2 (S2 = 750 mg/L, S3 = 1.125 mg/L, S4 = 1.500 mg/L, S5 = 1.875 mg/L). Foram determinados os teores de N, P, K, Ca, Mg e S no tecido foliar em três épocas de avaliações (50, 64 e 78 DAT), além de uma avaliação dos teores minerais nas folhas, caule e raiz ao final do experimento (100 DAT). As variáveis produção de folhas e eficiência agronômica do Ca(NO3)2 foram avaliadas. A maior produção de folhas (1780 g/planta) e eficiência agronômica [2,37 g matéria fresca/mg de Ca(NO3)2] foram obtidas na solução nutritiva padrão, e ambas foram reduzidas em 55,6% pela salinidade. A adição extra de Ca(NO3)2 em 50% na solução nutritiva salinizada reduziu o efeito da salinidade sobre a absorção de Mg e reduziu o efeito da adição de NaCl sobre a produção da couve.

Abstract The aim of the present study was to compare three and faster sample evaluation, hence adding value to the microscopy tests. Mangroves, because they have high productivity, become attractive places for housing and the development of human activities, such as shrimp farming. However, this activity has generated major environmental impacts. Considering the importance and expressive fragility of mangroves, the objective of this study was to evaluate the impact of a marine shrimp production unit in the mangrove forest of the Rio das Conchas, Porto do Mangue, Rio Grande do Norte. The extent of the affected area was determined by means of remote sensing. Two scenes obtained by the LANDSAT 7 satellite, each composed of three spectral bands, were used. The scenes are representative of the years 1999 and 2003, which comprise, respectively, the previous period and after the installation of the shrimp farm. An on-site evaluation was also carried out to find traces that could be related to degradation, especially signs of soil degradation. According to the evaluation of the area occupied by mangrove vegetation by means of the remote sensing technique, a loss of 25 hectares of mangrove vegetation was verified between the periods of 1999 (prior to the installation of the project) and 2007 (year in which the tax assessment notice was drawn). This reduction reflects the implantation of the shrimp farming activity, associated to the discharge of effluents, originated from the same, as well as poor planning for the development of the activity in the place.

Resumo Os manguezais por apresentarem elevada produtividade, tornam-se locais atrativos para habitação e desenvolvimento de atividades humanas, como a carcinicultura. No entanto, essa atividade tem gerado grandes impactos ambientais. Assim, considerando a importância e a expressiva fragilidade dos manguezais, objetivou-se avaliar o impacto de uma unidade de produção de camarão marinho na floresta de mangue do rio das conchas, Porto do Mangue, Rio Grande do Norte. A extensão da área afetada foi determinada por meio de sensoriamento remoto. Foram utilizadas duas cenas obtidas pelo satélite LANDSAT 7, representativas dos anos de 1999 e 2003, que compreendem, respectivamente, o período anterior e após a instalação da fazenda de camarão. Realizou-se também uma avaliação in loco, buscando encontrar vestígios que pudessem estar relacionados à degradação, em especial indícios de degradação do solo. Conforme a avaliação da área ocupada por vegetação de mangue por meio da técnica de sensoriamento remoto, constatou-se uma perda de 25 hectares de área ocupada por vegetação de mangue, entre os períodos de 1999 (anterior à instalação do empreendimento) e 2007 (ano em que o auto de infração foi lavrado). Essa redução é reflexo da implantação da atividade de carcinicultura, associado ao descarte de efluentes da mesma, bem como, mau planejamento para o desenvolvimento da atividade no local.
